New Camp Location and Expanded Enrollment Highlight a Very Special 2010 for Happy Trails
Dear Family and Friends,
As the New Year approaches, we want to extend our gratitude for your ongoing support of Happy Trails for Kids. 2010 was a great year! We are delighted to report that each of our programs went better than expected.
This was only our second year hosting the summer overnight program for children in foster care, but it was a terrific success. We were ecstatic to see a large percentage of our campers from 2009 join us for another year. Despite the fact that a number of kids moved to new foster homes, our staff worked diligently to remain in contact with our boys and girls throughout the year.
Also, due to generous donations, we were able to open our doors to many new campers. Nearly 100 children spent a week at an idyllic wilderness facility, participating in a number of exciting activities – ranging from horseback riding to canoeing.
Our more established programs went off without a hitch! Children with disabilities in foster care and those receiving regional center services got the benefits of the great outdoors through our Ranch and Camp programs.
What we have learned from our 2010 effort is simple: Happy Trails works! As stated by social workers and foster parents, Happy Trails has a profound and beneficial effect on the children who participate. Our campers have role models – their counselors. They form lasting friendships with others who understand them – their cabin mates. They have hope – future programs and activities. They have year round joy – camp, reunion events, parties, phone calls, birthday cards, holiday gifts and monthly newsletters. Mostly they can experience what all kids deserve – happiness.
Our Happy Trails family is growing. We are ambitious. In 2011, we are hoping to expand once more! With well over 100 children on our waiting list, we know the need is there. We want to provide more sessions. We have the staff. We have the children. We have the programs. What do we need? YOU!!!
Please join in by contributing funds, volunteering at one of our programs, donating items or just by spreading the word. On behalf of our campers, we thank you for thinking of Happy Trails for Kids!
Sincerely,
Susan Abrams
